What is this committee?
The Church Council is the primary administrative and programmatic coordinating body of the local church. It provides overall leadership and vision, ensuring that the church's ministries are aligned with its mission and goals.
What are our responsibilities?
Provide overall vision, planning, and coordination for all church ministries and programs.
Develop and implement the church's mission and strategic goals.
Receive reports from and coordinate the work of all other church committees (Finance, SPRC, Trustees, etc.).
Approve the annual budget as recommended by the Finance Committee.
Ensure effective communication throughout the church and with the broader UMC connection.
Address emergent issues and make decisions that impact the entire congregation.

Those who are good communicators, strategic thinkers, and able to facilitate collaboration among various groups. Chairs of our church committees automatically serve on the Church Council.

Finance Committee
What is this committee?
The Finance Committee is responsible for overseeing the financial health of the church, including budgeting, income, and expenditures. It works to ensure the responsible stewardship of the congregation's financial resources.
What are our responsibilities?
Develop and recommend an annual budget to the Church Council.
Monitor income and expenses against the approved budget.
Provide regular financial reports to the Church Council and the congregation.
Oversee internal financial controls and ensure compliance with UMC policies and best practices.
Advise on financial matters related to fundraising, investments, and capital improvements.
Work with the treasurer and financial secretary to ensure accurate record-keeping.

People Committee
What is this committee?
The People Committee joins the work of the Staff Parish Relations Committee & the Nominations Committee. The work of the group is to match the needs of our church with the right people - whether paid staff or volunteers. As SPRC, it supports the effectiveness of the pastoral and staff ministry. As Nominations, the group identifies and recruits individuals for leadership positions within the church, including various committees and lay leadership roles.
What are our responsibilities?
Serve as a consultative body to the pastor and staff, offering support, feedback, and encouragement.
Conduct annual evaluations of the pastor and staff in consultation with them.
Address concerns or conflicts related to staff performance or relationships within the church.
Identify potential candidates for various church committees and leadership positions.
Discern the gifts and graces of church members and match them with appropriate roles.
Recruit and invite individuals to serve, explaining the responsibilities of each role.
Prepare a slate of nominees for presentation and election by the charge conference.
Ensure that the nominations reflect the diversity of the congregation.
Maintain an ongoing awareness of leadership needs and potential candidates.

Trustees Committee
What is this committee?
The Board of Trustees is responsible for the oversight, care, and maintenance of all church property, including buildings, land, and equipment. They act as legal fiduciaries for the congregation's assets.
What are our responsibilities?
Manage and maintain all church property, ensuring it is safe, secure, and in good repair.
Oversee property insurance, legal matters related to property, and capital improvements.
Approve contracts for repairs, renovations, and services related to church property.
Develop and implement long-range plans for property maintenance and development.
Ensure compliance with all applicable building codes, zoning regulations, and safety standards.
Who would make a good fit?
Individuals with knowledge or experience in property management, construction, real estate, law, or skilled trades. Those who are practical, organized, and committed to preserving and enhancing the church's physical assets.
